What an amazing learning process this course has been. To end the 5th week on learning about differentiated leadership and having the crucial conversations is prompting me to continuously evaluate the level of knowledge I have gained about my change effort and implementation plan/process.
We watched 3 videos this week that were game changers. Differentiated leadership is a quality that I feel I already posses; therefore, the crucial conversations is where I need to focus majority of my time. As I sit and reflect on all the conversations that will inherently happen throughout implementation, and the staff who will take part in the emotional triangle, I know that I need to work on a couple aspects of the 8 steps. Steps number 4 (make it safe) and 5 (master my stories).
Step 4 seemed to be simple when first being explained because I am not a violent person. On the flipped side, I do get silent if my emotions take over, which according to the video, makes it an unsafe environment for the other person. Using my words carefully in this instance is probably where most of my work will be focused. This also leads us into Step 5. Reason being, if I have mastered all the facts of my plan, there is no need for me dig into my emotional side. I will be having a conversation about the impact it will have on students, while providing evidence to back my plan.
This course has hands down been my favorite portion of this degree thus far. I have learned many things about myself, and how to tap into the hearts and appeal to a deeper side of others.
