How will the Course Outcomes planning process and 3 Column table influence or impact your innovation plan? This table will allow me to align my material and create an outline where my students can see a general overview of the why, how, and evaluation. It will also allow me to see where I need to add in or take away things that will not align with incorporating Canvas into my classroom. If you click on the AVID picture, you will be able to see my BHAG and 3 Column Table.

The Future for Me and Technology in my Classroom and Schoolwide: My vision is to eventually have all teachers on my campus realize the benefits of an online learning environment being part of their everyday lessons. By implementing Canvas as a blended learning tool, we are allowing our kids to have access to information outside of our classroom walls where students can potentially increase their test scores, student engagement in the course, and be better prepared for a world that communicates primarily online. Phases of My Digital Story
Phase 1: Background Information 1. I had my students get into groups of 4 2. They were given 3 questions to answer
Phase 2: Preparation 1. Students had to figure out what type of video they were going to make (informative, commercial, movie trailer, etc) 2. They had to come up with a script for incorporating all necessary information. 3. Get the script approved by me. Phase 3: Begin Filming 1. Choose a movie maker app of their choice 2. Film in a quiet setting so voices can be clear 3. Edit film and make sure that all information is clearly stated 4. Re-shoot any scenes that did not come out messed up. Phase 4: Submission Process 1. Make sure your school gmail account is setup on your device. 2 . Upload your film to email to my school email account which is on the board 3. Type in Group # Learning Style Movie in subject box 4. Check to make sure the email address is correct 5. Submit assignment 6. Check to make sure I actually received their work Phase 5: The Real Fun in Editing 1. Gather all movies collected from students 2. Use Easy Movie Maker on my PC to being trimming and merging the videos. 3. Select which clips fit best in final product. 4. Adjust sound of Video and Audio so one does not drown out the other. 5. Add transition slides in between each clip. 6. Add text 7. Final run through of video. 8. Save final version, and upload to YouTube.
Here is my innovation plan outline. ![]()
Our learning environments are ancient products that need a major upgrade and overhaul. We cannot continue to progress in a world that has so drastically changed in terms of learning needs, abilities, and technologies if we continue utilizing the same environments that were forced upon us so long ago. Our education style should no longer be industrial, meaning that students are simply divided up, given instruction, and then pushed along an assembly line until graduation. Education should be innovative to encompass the different styles, backgrounds, abilities, etc. of each learner. To do so, we must understand the needs of learners today, recognize that not everyone fits into one box, and change our teaching philosophies and strategies to transform learning into a student-centered experience so that we can create children that our products of the world and not products of an systematic, industrial approach.
Disruptive Innovation is anything that interrupts the traditional methods of processing, whether it is teaching or learning. Disruption happens when people start moving away from traditional methods to a new innovative one. This is important because all students are individuals and learn in different ways so there is no reason that they should all be taught and assessed the same way. At my school the following can be done:
For my innovation plan, I will recommend implementing Canvas, an e-learning platform, into my traditional classroom instruction in an effort to see if student exam scores would increase with the addition of an online element, and to also see if student engagement increases because of the online aspect. The benefits of using an ePortfolio is you can track your research, accomplishments, growth, and concerns online for public review and comments. You can publish your work and receive feedback, you can post blogs for viewers to comment on, and you can continuously improve or update the work and keep getting the positive or negative feedback you need for improvements. It is also valuable on the teaching side. You can allow your students to begin their ePortfolios at a young age so they can see growth in their works over the years from middle school throughout high school. I make my students create an eportfolio at the end of their 7th grade year to use through 8th grade. I have had several students come back and tell me they were happy that we started doing this assignment because they can see how much they have improved in essay writing, projects, and posting appropriate information on the internet.
TAPHERD This learning community is to help me provide my students in physical education with new and improved ways to approach exercise. We have a week set aside in the summer where we go through professional development, and throughout the year, we communicate and are kept up to date with weekly articles, blog posts, and emails. AVID Site Team This community provides all information necessary for our school to continue operating as a National Demonstration School. With this group, we meet once a week and decide how to take college readiness for our students to the next level, whether it be through school-wide binders or W.I.C.O.R. (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) strategies provided through every class in our school; such as, Cornell notes, one-pagers, marking the text, philosophical chairs, Socratic seminars, etc. Summer Institute training is also provided through this PLC. We meet for a week and learn new strategies to take back to our schools and incorporate in our classrooms so our students will be more engaged in the content. ED TECH Mansfield ISD This community is provided through out school district in our technology department. All teachers are required to take part and have 12 hours in technology professional development. You are allowed to take as many as you want, so I take part in this opportunity. They train us on the newest or latest finds in technology and education integration. We incorporate different devices and learn on both PC and Mac. An example of what we last discussed before the school year was out was online classrooms. We suggested blackboard and canvas since they would see those in college. We were approved for canvas and so they picked 3 teachers from each of our 11 secondary schools to do a trial run. This is probably my favorite learning community because they are closer and I am able to get face to face time with them more often than 2 of my other PLC groups. Electives PLC This community is my least favorite because at my school they put all the elective teachers in one group. This is strange to me because we all teach different subjects. The elective courses are as follows:
